Coastal redwoods are the true giants of the natural world. Renowned for their massive size and remarkable height, they often exceed 20 feet in diameter and 300 feet tall. Their trunks, typically straight and column-like, provide stunning visual appeal as well as remarkable stability. This particular tree thrived in an environment rich in water, nutrients, and mild temperatures, as reflected by the wide rings in its trunk.
The resulting print, with its evenly spaced ring pattern, Japanese-like aesthetic, and evenly pressed ink, inspired the name “Shibui,” a Japanese word that refers to a particular aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty.
Shibui is an original relief print on Japanese rice paper, mounted to canvas and surrounded by a black floater frame.
