Coastal redwoods are the true giants of the natural world. renowned for their massive size + remarkable height, often exceeding 20 feet in diameter + 300 feet tall. their trunks, typically straight + column-like, provide stunning visual appeal as well as remarkable stability. This particular tree thrived in an environment rich in water, nutrients + mild temperatures, as reflected by the wide rings in its trunk.
The resulting print, with its evenly spaced ring pattern, japanese-like aesthetic, and evenly pressed ink, inspired the name “Shibui,” a japanese word that refers to a particular aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty.
