Hackberry is a diffuse-porous hardwood with a lifespan of approximately 150-200 years. In ideal conditions, this species can grow relatively quickly when young, as indicated by the larger width of the growth rings toward the center of this piece. While the tree itself is hardy and resilient in terms of environmental conditions, hackberry is a relatively soft hardwood that can be brittle and more prone to splitting or breaking under pressure.
Typically viewed as a flaw, the fractures in this print have been reassembled to reveal beauty in vulnerability. Through its reconstruction, it takes on new life, embodying the title “Recon.”
This is an original relief print on Japanese rice paper, mounted to canvas, and surrounded by a black floater frame.
