The Chinese elm is a stately deciduous tree commonly found in China, Korea + Japan. with its graceful, upright form, this species can grow to impressive dimensions, stretching 40 to 50 feet. revered for its strength + resilience, the Chinese elm is famously capable of weathering fierce winds + physical stress. even so, this tree met its demise during the intense storms that swept through northern California during the spring of 2023.
This particular cut reveals a print that resembles delicate, finger-like forms on stony coral from the genus “Porites,” inspiring the name for this piece.
